How Parents Can Keep Their Child’s Online Experience Safe, Fun, And Productive

There’s no question that today’s parents need to pay a lot of attention to what their children are doing online. The truth is that you keep hearing and reading horror stories and you just want to ensure that your children don’t end up being a part of those statistics.

So, there is a new parental control tool in town – the Qustodio.

What Is Qustodio?

Simply put, Qustodio is a parental control tool that can be used on a wide range of devices from Mac to Windows, Android, iOS, Kindle, and even Nook. After all, long gone are the days when you could simply have some kind of parental control tools on the family computer.

One of the things that we particularly like about the Qustodio is that it delivers so much information and data about what they are doing.  Also, you have the possibility of customizing a lot of settings. This way, we can say that the Qustodio is versatile enough to be used with any child. Besides, at the end of the day, you can easily check its reports to check what your children have been doing online.

Setting Up

Setting up the Qustodio is easy. As soon as you buy your subscription, you can then start installing a local client on each device that our child uses. You can start with the Mac or Windows installations, and then proceed to the mobile devices.

Notice that the Qustodio is already available for iOS as well as Android and since there is only one app there, you won’t have any problems installing them. During the setup, you will be asked to specify if it is the child or parent’s device. In case you are using Android or iOS, then you need to keep in mind that you will need to enable a wide range of settings that include accessibility access, the apps your child can use, and the device-level access such as contacts, location, calls, media, and SMS.

One of the things that you should consider doing is to lock down the Android settings with your password and to remove the guest account.

The Interface

One of the things that could be a little better is the Qustodio interface. It feels a little dated. However, the most important part – the Account Center, where you can see the associated child profiles, can be accessed at the top left.

The Reports

This is one of the aspects that we really like about Qustodio. The reports are pretty detailed and you can either check them when you want through the dashboard or you can simply wait for the daily email they send you with an activity summary for each child. If preferred, you may also set this report to be delivered on a weekly basis.

Within the reports you will be able to see a pie chart divided into different categories that include app, web, social, search, and device activity. Since these items are interactive, you can simply click on a website or app to block it.

One of the aspects that tend to worry most parents is to know what their children are doing on social media. However, with Qustodio, you can only keep track of Facebook and it doesn’t monitor Facebook Messenger (but you can block the app).

Overall, the reports are very detailed and comprehensive and you can block or set a time limit on your child’s device.

Bottom Line

Qustodio is definitely a great parental control tool that allows you to monitor your child’s activity online both on mobile and desktop devices.

Allowing you a high degree of customization, Qustodio offers simple app blocking, robust web protection, and highly customizable time limits. Nevertheless, the price isn’t in the budget for all parents and it lacks in what concerns to social media monitoring.

Still, in our opinion, Qustodio is one of the best (if not the best) parental control solutions on the market.
